The Market LV for WCF World Chess Championship Title Match
Benefitting WCF Chess for The Blind Initiative

Chess N Games will Then Present Title Match Play Between Reigning WCF World Chess Champion Stan Vaughan and Challenger Ron Gross November 5-21

Chess N Games, the new retail game store opened at The Market LV in Tivoli Village by Las Vegas residents Cheryl and Michael Stern, is opening its doors in partnership with the World Chess Federation (WCF) to host a kick-off Party for the WCF World Championship Title Match on Sunday, November 4 from 2-5 p.m. benefitting the WCF "Welcome to the Chess Universe" Initiative for people who are blind or visually impaired.

The party will celebrate the beginning of the 2012 WCF World Championship Title Match between reigning WCF World Champion Grand Master Stan Vaughan and challenger International Master Ron Gross, winner of the Candidates Tournament held in 2010 at the Riviera Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, which will be played during the month of November at Chess N Games in The Market LV.  The event will also be a fundraising effort for the WCF’s "Welcome to the Chess Universe", providing funding for the purchase of a dozen or more Braille chessboards and special computers to be used to teach visually impaired and blind people in Nevada and beyond the beloved game of chess.

“We are very excited to be partnering with the WCF to present the World Chess Champion Title Match at Chess N Games as well as support their valiant initiative to bring the wonderful game of chess to the blind,” says Chess N Games owner Cheryl Stern. “This is our first retail game store in twelve years, and we thought it only fitting to celebrate its opening with a truly memorable, high-stakes game – the likes of which you only get in Las Vegas.”

The Kick-off event will be an informative and interactive celebration of Chess and the title match players themselves. As part of the fundraising efforts that day, attendees will have the opportunity to personally challenge Grand Master Stan Vaughan for a sitting fee of $20. Mr. Vaughan will play up to eight challengers simultaneously. Additionally there will be a live opportunity drawing for several amazing prizes including paintings of famous artists, valuable chess related memorabilia, Hand Made wood chess set, 18” Wood Folding Chess Set , 4 Pro Chess Sets and more.  Tickets for the opportunity drawing will be sold in advance of the party at Chess N Games for $ 5.00 each and at the event for $6.00 . Must be present to win.

Guests to the WCF Title Match Kick-Off Event will also experience a bit of Chess tradition as they are treated to the Drawing of the Colors ceremony for the first round of title match play.  This ceremony determines what side of the board each player will take.

Following the Kick-Off Party, play of the WCF World Championship Title Match between Grand Master Stan Vaughan and Ron Gross will commence on Monday, November 5 at Chess N Games. Play will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until close.  The WCF Title Match will continue at Chess N Games every Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. until close from November 5- November 21.  The World Chess Championship (a registered mark of WCF) for the title of “The World Chess Champion” is the WCF’s most visible activity.  The title is subject to WCF rules and regulations regarding mandatory defense at least every two years in even numbered years against a challenger determined by WCF via WCF Qualifying Candidate tournament and Candidate Match Playoffs held in odd numbered years or more often in the interim at the option of the current holder, continental championships and the WCF Team Championship.  The title match to determine the winner and the player who will be named WCF World Champion can last between 3-6 months in total.
